What they asked for
As part of a marketing strategy, CORE had planned to take out advertisements in various UK trade magazines to advertise their services to potential clients.
They were looking for graphic designers to create three CORE branded magazine advert designs. One full page advert design for CORE’s initiative ‘CORE Facility Sports’, one half-page advert to advertise CORE’s ‘Smarter Energy and Waste Management’ service, and a more general half-page advert promoting CORE’s key services.
For each advert, CORE outlined the key text and messages they wanted to get across and gave us a clear timeline for when they needed the advert designs completed. They wanted the designs to be professional and eye-catching and to complement their existing branding. The central message that CORE wanted to get across and underline in the advert designs was that CORE help businesses run more smoothly and efficiently.
What we did
We set a priority list to ensure we finished each poster design in time for when CORE needed it. We experimented with layout designs and other design ideas that we thought would complement CORE’s existing brand colours and logo.
For the half-page advert promoting CORE’s key services, we sourced themed images and created a layout with icon designs in the centre, representing CORE’s key services – Energy, Estates, Waste, IT, and Sustainability. We presented these images under the message ‘We look after the functions at the heart of your business,’ so that viewers could easily understand what services CORE offered. We presented the call to action ‘Simplify Your Business Today’ in bold text alongside CORE’s logo and their website address and contact telephone number to prompt interested viewers to contact CORE or visit their website for more information.
For the ‘Smarter Energy and Waste Management’ advert, we created icons representing the energy and waste management services CORE provides, including energy efficiency, sustainability, and waste & recycling. We developed a simple design layout with a clear message – CORE can help keep your energy and waste costs low by improved efficiency – and a clear call to action to encourage the audience to find out more about CORE, with contact telephone number, website address, and social media addresses showing where potential customers can learn more.
For the ‘CORE Facility Sports’ advert, CORE’s objective was to advertise CORE’s community sports partnership and to win contracts at sports clubs for their energy and waste management services. They also wanted the advert to highlight CORE’s role as the official shirt sponsor of the local National League football club FC Halifax Town. We sourced an image of FC Halifax Town players celebrating a goal with the CORE logo on their shirts and placed it at the centre of the layout. We created icons for the services they offered sports clubs – energy and waste management, IT and telecoms, and cleaning services, and presented contact details clearly at the bottom of the advert.
We shared early drafts of our advert design ideas with CORE, and at every stage we incorporated their feedback into refining the layout and design until they were happy to go to print.
